The American League at HDLL is for players ages 9 and 10.
This division gives players their first experience playing on a Little League regulation size field. (Base paths are 60’ and pitching distance is 46’). It is also an HDLL player’s first experience playing with traditional baseball rules, though leading off is not allowed. Players face pitchers at the plate, not coaches pitching, and with pitch count rules, each team uses a lot of pitchers.
Our 2014 campaign launches with try-outs. Try-outs are required for each player, new and returning, as this provides coaches and managers an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the player’s abilities prior to the draft. Player’s whom do not attend try-outs may be ineligible for All Stars.
Next, is the player draft held second week of February. Managers and coaches will fill out there rosters and subsequently contact all players. (Players are not invited to the draft).
Practices begin usually about third week of February, and are held at local school fields in the area. As weather permits some practices may be held at HDLL AL field.
Finally, games begin with opening Ceremonies, second week in March. We play other HDLL squads and also participate in Inter-League play which enables us to compete against neighbors throughout the area.
HDLL is run by volunteers. There are no paid positions. This includes coaches, managers, umpires, and Board members. We could always use assistance in these positions, as well as field maintenance and other volunteering efforts. It takes a lot to run a Little League. We could use your help. Opportunities include team parent, umpiring, score-keeping, assistance at practice (ask your manager), assisting with field restoration after games, as well as field maintenance and many other tasks that need your assistance.
So, let’s… Play Ball!
